Dark Universe (Keppel, 2018) is a dramatic tall bearded iris known for its striking luminata pattern. The standards rise in rich violet-purple with softly ruffled edges, while the falls are deep velvety purple that glow with a pale halo around the beard. A bright yellow beard sits against the luminous white wash at the haft, creating a glowing center that contrasts beautifully with the dark petals. This strong luminata effect gives the bloom a mysterious depth and makes it a standout in the garden.  Dark Universe comes from a cross involving Fancy Dress, New Leaf, Moonlit Water, and Belle Fille and has received the Honorable Mention in 2021, the Award of Merit in 2023, and the Wister Medal in 2025.
