Gay Stripes (Fielding, 1957) AB

Gay Stripes is an arilbred iris introduced by Roy Fielding in 1957, growing about 16 inches tall and blooming midseason. The flowers are a soft silvery blue gray with distinctive blue striping across both the standards and falls, creating a finely patterned appearance. Although sometimes historically described as an “oncobred,” the modern classification is arilbred (AB), meaning it carries oncocyclus ancestry combined with bearded iris genetics. Gay Stripes was bred from two unnamed oncobred parents and represents an early example of patterned striping in arilbred iris breeding.
