In Living Color (Black, 2003) TB HM AM
In Living Color (Black, 2003) is a tall bearded iris growing to approximately 36 inches, blooming midseason. Standards are bright medium yellow with style arms in medium yellow gold. Falls feature a small gold patch on either side of the bright gold beard, blending into plum on the haft and then progressively outward to medium violet and violet tan, finished with a narrow gilt gold marginal band and a short blue line below the beard. The blooms are well ruffled and carry a pronounced musky fragrance. In Living Color is the result of seedling F154A ((‘Witches' Sabbath’ × ‘In Town’) × ‘Flying Carpet’) crossed with seedling D61A (‘Skyblaze’ × ‘Tom Johnson’) and was introduced by Paul Black in 2004. It earned Honorable Mention in 2006 and Award of Merit in 2009.
