Solar Fire (Tasco, 2002) is a tall bearded iris growing to approximately 36 inches, blooming midseason. Standards are golden yellow with a golden bronze flush strongest near the edges. Style arms are yellow with a golden orange midrib. Falls are deep oxblood red with yellow netting surrounding the beard, creating bold contrast. Beards are gold with an oxblood red flounce or hairy horn. The blooms are well ruffled and carry a slight fragrance. Solar Fire resulted from the cross Thornbird × Golden Panther and was introduced by Richard Tasco in 2002. It earned Favorite Guest in 2003, Honorable Mention in 2005, Award of Merit in 2007, and the Nelson Award in 2009.
